Ushering in a New Era of Soccer Leadership in Alberta

Soccer is the fastest-growing sport in Canada, and in Alberta, it’s more than a game. It’s a powerful way for communities to connect. But for the Alberta Soccer Association, the brand hadn’t kept pace with the sport’s momentum.

In 2023, ASA set out to redefine its role. The goal was not just a new look but a renewed sense of purpose and a brand that reflected the people who make soccer happen across the province. While participation was strong, awareness and perception told a different story. A province-wide survey showed only 15% of respondents were very familiar with ASA, and public opinion was divided. Many were unclear on ASA’s role, especially in rural communities. Concerns around fees, communication, and support for coaches and officials came through clearly. At the same time, Alberta’s population was becoming more diverse, and expectations of sports organizations were shifting. People wanted leadership that prioritized inclusion, development, and real community investment.

ASA partnered with Brandish to develop a refreshed strategy and brand identity that could meet those expectations. The process began with listening. Through surveys, interviews, and market research, a new direction emerged. Albertans wanted sport to be about more than competition. They wanted opportunity, belonging, and connection.

ASA’s updated brand builds on that spirit. It reflects the energy and emotion of the game while creating space for everyone, whether they play, coach, officiate, or cheer from the sidelines. Messaging was made more intentional and audience-specific so every stakeholder could see themselves in the brand.

A key part of the shift was renewed investment in rural and underrepresented communities, with plans for regional tournaments, outreach, and partnerships. ASA also mapped a path for digital transformation, meeting people where they are with content and communication that reflect today’s standards.

With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, ASA’s refreshed identity arrives at a pivotal moment. The rebrand signals a clear commitment to building stronger communities through sport, and Alberta Soccer is positioned to lead that work.
